The UCI School of Physical Sciences Science Communication Fellowship advances the school’s mission to communicate science effectively using a wide variety of media and platforms.
One fellow will be selected from each department in the School of Physical Sciences. Each fellowship may be renewed quarterly, as determined by engagement in fellowship and communication efforts. The program will enhance the Physical Sciences Communications & External Relations Office by advancing its mission to communicate the school’s research to diverse audiences.
Program Expectations
- Produce at least one written article per month. Writing can include anything from a human-interest story to a press release for newly published research, and can range from 300-1500 words.
- Contribute original content to social media channels in your department.
- Develop engaging graphics, videos and other visual elements that may be used for social media channels, websites or other platforms.
- Participate in weekly content strategy planning sessions with the Physical Sciences communications team.

Time Commitment: Average of 10 hours a week
Award Amount: $1,000 per month
The UCI School of Physical Sciences Communications and External Relations team is responsible for publicizing the school and its strategic priorities to internal and external audiences. We partner with faculty and researchers to promote their work through news releases, events and digital and print platforms. Our office provides resources and guidance on marketing best practices, websites, graphic design, media relations and more.

The 2024-2025 Application is open until September 3, 2024 at 5 p.m. PT.
Interested graduate students must submit a completed application, along with a CV and two writing samples (professional or academic) that you feel best represent your writing ability. If you are selected, you must obtain approval to participate in the fellowship from your faculty advisor and the department graduate vice-chair.
